Current status (roadmap, progress, number of users):

kannuu has an innovative look-up technology based on a series of revolutionary patents. The company was launched at DEMOfall 07 and has already entered into contract negotiations and discussions with a number leading device manufactures, mobile software creators and online service providers. We have products powered by kannuu look-up technology during Q2 of this year.

Your know-how:
Consumers demand ubiquitous access to digital content regardless of their location or device. Unfortunately, access to such content through current devices has three fatal flaws:
1. Devices are becoming smaller and more multi-functional, making input mechanisms more difficult to use.
2. As the volume of content increases, the effort level necessary to find content increases on a linear basis.
3. Existing list selection applications are proprietary to certain devices or operating systems, resulting in a lack of consistent user experience.

kannuu (pronounced ‘canoe’) is the technology that makes access to digital content simple for everyone. Easy to use, kannuu offers a consistent experience, regardless of the device input mechanism. kannuu technology offers exponential efficiency, so as the size of the list grows, speed in finding content is scarcely impacted. And kannuu works on any device environment, on the Web or directly installed on the device chip.

The heart of kannuu is its remarkable list selection technology that functions without needing a keyboard or keypad. Finding content using traditional input technologies is often arduous and error-laden, as text-entry from small keyboards often yields undependable results. kannuu understands this and provides lightning quick list selection through revolutionary, patented Partial Word Completion™. It’s so user-friendly that it only requires the ability to select up, down, left, and right.

Unlike traditional input technologies, kannuu doesn’t attempt to guess the entire word as each character is entered. Rather, kannuu empowers the user to create phrases in chunks of characters, ensuring the right content is found every time. kannuu is about finding, not searching.

Can you tell us more about your service ?

kannuu offers the power of Partial Word Completion™ technology through three products: kannuu Online, kannuu On Device, and kannuu On Chip. Developers will be able to download any of the kannuu product SDK’s or try an online demonstration of kannuu at our website at www.kannuu.com

kannuu Online: kannuu can be implemented online as a Web service. This product enables Partial Word Completion™ lookup for remote clients connected to the Internet. The kannuu user interface is completely customizable and can be written in C++, Java, JavaScript and HTML. The Web service API is accessed via industry standards such as simple XML, JSON, XML-RPC, and SOAP.

kannuu On Device: kannuu technology can be installed on the device operating system. The user interface is written in Java or C++ and accesses the kannuu index either on the device (in the form of a proprietary binary file) or from a remote SQL database. kannuu supports industry standard application environments such as BREW, Cocoa, Android, J2EE, and J2ME. With kannuu On Device, all that’s required is a data source, an operating system, hardware input, and a screen.

kannuu On Chip: kannuu can be incorporated into the functions of a chip to allow for device enhancement through the integration of "system-on-a-chip" components. The core logic of kannuu lookup can be built into the code of the chip, allowing for look-up processing availability to application-specific implementations on any device incorporating that chip.In this way, devices that don’t have high-level processors and operating systems, such as music players and digital cameras, can give users access to kannuu lookup without additional software.

What is your business model ?
We provide developers a set of tools to integrate kannuu technology into their product offering. We charge on a per device or user license in the case of our on-device and on-chip products. For our on-line products we charge based on a per server basis.

What are the projects, additional features you’re preparing ?
Our main focus right now is to address the needs of the various developer communities. There are so many applications for kannuu and we are building tools so that our technology can be integrated with ease while allowing each implementation to be customized to the needs of the end users. We will be announcing the launches of specific SDK’s starting this quarter.

What are the current users’ feedback, your learning’s on the service’s usage ?
Based our user testing kannuu dramatically reduces the stress involved in looking up and finding content on devices that have limited input capabilities. In addition the speed and accuracy ensure that users can find what they want and this encourages them to use and explore the device or services features more regularly and with greater confidence
