Current status (roadmap, progress, number of users): Trolltech creates efficient software development frameworks and platforms that are used by the world’s largest software and consumer electronics companies. Our technology helps these companies design innovative devices and desktop applications with quality user experiences while reducing the risks and costs of software development.Trolltech has more than 4500 customers around the world. We are headquartered in Oslo, Norway and have development offices in Munich, Berlin and Australia with sales offices in California, US and Beijing, China. Can you tell us more about your service?
Trolltech has two main product lines. Qt is a cross-platform software development framework and makes advanced, rich GUI applications develpment easier and faster to build. Qt is the foundation of KDE, one of two standard windowing environments for desktop Linux. Qtopia, which is built on Qt, is the application platfrom for creating user interfaces for Linux based devices such as mobile phones, portable media players, medical devices and in-car navigation systems.
What is your business model?
Trolltech uses a Dual Licensing business model. This model allows developers to use our products in two distinct uses: commerical and open source development. For more information.
What are the projects, additional features you’re preparing?
As a public company, we cannot tell you too much in this area. However, like many companies, Trolltech makes available a website called TrollLabs where our developers share the interesting things they are working on that may or may not become part of our current products or new products.
What are the current users’ feedback, your learnings on the service’s usage?
As an open source company, we make product updates available to the community daily. Thus, we get constant feedback. Most recently, when we launched Qtopia Greenphone, an open development environment for mobile applications, we received feedback that Wi-Fi capabilities should be added.
